First Java Development Kits for Mac OS X Available From Oracle


The first Java Development Kit and JavaFX Software Development Kit for Mac OS X is now available from Oracle, according to a press release from the company.

News Facts
● Oracle today announced the availability of Java Platform, Standard Edition 7 Update 4 (Java SE 7 Update 4) and JavaFX 2.1.
● This release marks Oracle’s first delivery of both the Java Development Kit (JDK) and JavaFX Software Development Kit (SDK) for Mac OS X.
— Java developers can now download Oracle’s JDK, which includes the JavaFX SDK, for Mac OS X from the Oracle Technology Network (OTN).
— Oracle plans to release a consumer version of Java SE 7, including the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) for Mac OS X later in 2012.

Apple announced it would cease future development of their version of Java for the Mac back in October of 2010. In November 2010, Oracle and Apple announced the OpenJDK project for Mac OS X.
