iTunes Gift Card

Apple is rolling out new iTunes gift cards which can be set to any amount between $15 and $500, reports 9to5Mac.

Rolling out to your favorite supermarket or retail store this holiday season are new Apple iTunes gift cards which can be bought in any denomination between $15 and $500. We’re hearing that at least one supermarket chain and one retailler are putting these on the shelves today. You take these cards to the cashier and choose how much to put on them. When the cashier validates the card, the amount paid is tied to the number/code.

Previously you had to purchase gift cards in preset denominations that only went up to $100.

Average iOS App Size Increased 16% From March to September

ABI Research has announced the results of study that found average iOS app sizes increased by 16% from March to September.

The iPad 3’s Retina display and Apple’s more liberal submission policy have caused the file sizes of leading iOS apps to grow substantially, especially in games. The latest data from ABI Research shows that the global average app size across all categories was 23 megabytes in September, 16% more than in March.

Notably the increase was much greater for games. The average size is 60MBs which is a six month increase of 42%.

Google Play’s average app size was about 6 MBs in September but games were larger at nearly 40MBs.

“Apple’s decision in March to increase the maximum size of 3G/4G-downloadable apps from 20MBs to 50MBs has clearly had an unleashing effect on developers, said senior analyst Aapo Markkanen. “Their games can now be more complex and graphically polished, while still being able to benefit from the instant gratification of cellular downloads. And second, Google’s move to start hosting files of up to 4GBs on Google Play has been similarly well-received among the developer community. Android’s old way of doing things was cumbersome for game developers and their customers alike, but there is evidence that this change, along with certain other improvements, is indeed making it a more credible gaming platform.”

iOS 6 to Bring Redesign to iTunes Store, App Store, and iBookstore {RUMOR}

Sources tell 9to5mac that iOS 6 will feature a new, redesigned iTunes Store, App Store and iBookstore. This information falls in line with the previous rumor that Apple was planning a major revamp of the stores. It makes perfect sense for them to launch this redesign along with the next big iOS release.

Perhaps the warming relationship between Apple and Facebook will bring along Facebook integration in the store. Along with Facebook integration, Apple could possible include improved app discovery with the acquisition of Chomp.

Apple is expected to announce iOS 6 at WWDC.

Apple is Launching a New Online Store

Apple is preparing to launch a new online store, according to a notice shown to educational shoppers, reports AppleInsider.

“Apple is launching a new online store, which is your tool to shop and place orders with Apple,” the note reads. “Proposal creation, order status, and a dramatically simplified user interface will make it easier to do business with Apple – all in a secure and reliable environment.”

While the notice appears to indicate that this new online store may only be for educational institutions, it could also signal that a revamp of Apple’s general consumer storefront is coming as well.

“Your current Apple ID and password will continue to work,” the notice states. “In the coming weeks, you will receive more information about the store’s features, benefits, and launch date.”
