WhatsApp in Talks to be Acquired By Facebook (RUMOR)

WhatsApp

WhatsApp Messenger, a popular cross platform messaging application, is in talks to be acquired by Facebook, according to TechCrunch.

Whatsapp, the multiplatform mobile messaging app that has been one of the runaway success stories for ad-free, paid services, has been in talks to be acquired by Facebook, according to sources close to the matter. We’re still digging around on potential price and other details about how advanced the deal is. But as mobile becomes the latest battleground in the Internet’s game of thrones, you can see how such a deal could make sense.

A year ago, WhatsApp was serving a billion messages a day. Today, it sits at the number two position on the App Store’s Top Paid list and likely serves even more messages per day.

You can purchase WhatsApp Messenger from the App Store for $0.99.

Facebook Tests Background Auto-Uploading of iOS Photos

Facebook is reportedly testing a new background auto-upload feature for iOS photos, reports TechCrunch.

Here’s how Facebook Photo Sync works, at least for those lucky enough to be in the test. You go to the Photos app in the Facebook For iOS app’s sidebar navigation or the photos section of your Timeline and scroll to the bottom. There you may find an option to check out Photo Sync and then enable it, as seen in this photo sent in by tipster YoloFahad (an Instagrammer-extraordinaire). Facebook will then automatically upload photos you shoot to an unpublished album only you can see. From there you can authorize which photos you want posted.

More information on Facebook Photo Sync can be found at the link below. It’s unclear when this feature will see widespread availability.

Instagram Announces Web Profile Pages

Instagram has announced the launch of web profile pages for users of its photo sharing service.

Your web profile features a selection of your recently shared photographs just above your profile photo and bio, giving others a snapshot of the photos you share on Instagram. In addition, you can follow users, comment & like photos and edit your profile easily and directly from the web. It’s a beautiful new way to share your Instagram photos!

To see your profile, or to explore a friend’s profile, simply navigate to instagram.com/[username]. For example, in order to view Nike’s profile, @nike, you’d navigate to instagram.com/nike on the web. If you don’t see your profile yet, be assured that you’ll see it in the next few days. We’re rolling out profiles to everyone on Instagram over the course of this week. You can find more information on Instagram profiles below the photos in this post, as well as in our help center.

Over the next few days, Instagram profiles will begin to rollout on the web.
